Gyro Sandwich (Greek Flatbread Meat Wrap)
Ingredients
For the Gyro Meat: 1 lb ground lamb (or beef), 1 small onion (grated), 3 cloves garlic (minced), 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp dried rosemary, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper, ½ tsp smoked paprika, 1 tbsp olive oil.
For the Tzatziki Sauce: 1 cup Greek yogurt, ½ cucumber (grated), 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 clove garlic (minced), 1 tbsp olive oil, ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp dill (chopped).
For the Wrap: 4 pita breads, 1 cup lettuce (shredded), ½ cup tomatoes (sliced), ½ cup red onions (sliced), ¼ cup feta cheese (crumbled, optional).
Instructions
1. Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a bowl, mix ground lamb (or beef) with grated onion, minced garlic, and spices. Blend well until smooth. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. 2. Cook the Gyro Meat: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it on a baking sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes until fully cooked. Let it cool, then slice thinly. If using a stovetop, cook the meat in a pan until browned and crispy. 3. Make the Tzatziki Sauce: In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, and dill. Stir well and refrigerate until ready to use. 4. Assemble the Wrap: Warm the pita bread, spread tzatziki sauce, add sliced gyro meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and crumbled feta cheese. 5. Serve: Roll up the wrap and enjoy with extra sauce or a side of Greek salad.
